London Summer 2017
This summer I was fortunate enough to be part of the first group of UC co-ops to work in London in the United Kingdom. During my time in the UK, I worked for a self-warming baby bottle manufacturing company called Yoomi as a quality intern. I lived in King's Cross (yes, a 5 minute walk away from Platform 9 and 3/4) and worked in Dartford, a city outside of London handing me an hour and a half one way work commute.
Living and working abroad was a huge lesson in confidence and independence. Even just taking public transportation to get literally anywhere was an adjustment. On one hand, it was nice to not worry about parking literally ever, but on the other, delayed trains really throw a wrench in the system. By the end of my experience I really feel like I had grown into an entirely different person, in the best way possible. Not only can I get myself anywhere, and I mean anywhere, I took public transportation all the way to places like Barcelona and Luxembourg, but I also have a deep appreciation for curry and a deeper understanding of what goes into quality in manufacturing.
Finally, I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the 6 other UC students who underwent this experience with me. We started out as complete strangers who just happened to go to the same university and all be working in London. By the end, and even now that we're back in Cincinnati, I would trust those crazy folks with my life. (If we want to get into it, in one instance I literally did...London had a really interesting June in 2017...)
Below you can link to two more places with content related to my summer. Though She Be is the blog I wrote based on literary experiences and personal growth during the summer. One Second Everyday is a minute and a half video that has a one second video snippet for ~almost~ every day I was abroad. Enjoy!
